KuneKune Pigs
Wednesday, August 13, 2025 • 9:30AM - 11:30AM
VSU Randolph Farm - 4415 River Road, Petersburg, VA 23803
A very docile, friendly-natured small breed of domesticated pig from New Zealand may be your missing link with introducing swine to your homestead. With their wide color range, hairy, rotund build, and a desire to turn the soil like an organic plow, the Kunekune (COO-nee COO-nee) naturally adds dung to the soil for fertility to support the next growing season.
Charles Allen and Jean Howard of CA & J Farm in Foster, Virginia, will be on hand to discuss their experiences with Kunekune pigs regarding lifespan, housing, and diet as well as reflections on experiences within her 5-acre off-grid homestead.
Learn why this highly intelligent and extremely social livestock variety may be the addition to your small farm that you didn’t know you needed. This workshop will include a brief classroom lecture followed by a live feeding and hands-on portion in a field within walking distance nearby.
